central and south amer cichlids

I know that there are lots of sth amer cand cent amer cichlids out there aand they generally get bigger than africans. What would be a good size to start off with. Not sure what to start with but should it be a larger tank of would 55 sarfice for about 5 or 6 fish. Medium to big fish...

a 55 will work for some of the smaller 5-6" ones, as long as they don't breed. sa/ca cichlids tend to be intolerant of others when breeding and rearing.

I have ketp bredding pairs of convicts and cutteri in a 55. After a while the cutteri clamed 75% of the tank, but allowed the con fry to swim with theirs.
