Snowfall Amounts

Well, I knew that the total amount here where I live on the Jersey Shore wasn't as bad as first thought...about 19".

Then I checked this, and found that many of you in MD/DC/VA got hit with 30"...ouch.

Weather forecasters called what we had on the Jersey Shore a Blizzard because of the horrible winds. There were spots in my driveway and in the yard that were basically bare of any accumulation because of the wind.
Did everyone in Md and Va have that as well?

BTW, one "weatherperson" on one of the NY channels called for the highest amounts of snow to be on the NJ/Md border. Did anyone hear what happened to Delaware?

I measured 25" in one area of my backyard that didn't seem to have drifts (the reports of 29" in Catonsville I find slightly dubious, though possible). The street has about the same, but there are 36" or higher snow drifts in places. Hard to tell exactly how much fell because of the wind-driven drifts, I measure it by how much I had to shovel, LOL. The wind was pretty heavy during the peak of the storm, I have a 12"+ snow overhang off the southern edge of my roof.

27" here, I'm in between these two locations:

1 WSW BERKELEY SPGS 26.0 1022 AM 2/06

3 WNW MARTINSBURG 28.5 1258 PM 2/06

No drifts here but there was enough wind to keep the snow from piling up on tree branches which was a blessing... power never even flickered here.

It was freakin deep, Im home till morning then back out for cleaning more walkways. What a **** mess. I still have that felling that Im plowing snow lol

I plowed when it started Friday. Went all thru the night, got some rest Sat and plowed all day today. Still more walkways to clean tomorrow. I may not do it considering it may be another snow Tuesday. I can justify a decent 30 inches in Glen Burnie.

Chris that list says Glen Burnie had 32"...ouch.
Another significant snow storm is coming this week...it's '96 all over again.

Yeah Bill it was pretty brutal. Shoveling is the pain. I just made sure people can open the doors. I gave them a pretty decent entry way. Im just freakin beat, I couldnt do more.

One funny thing is who in the hell is gonna buy a matress or dining room set? I dont think its many peoples priority right now. But it needs to be clean.

Here is my street late Saturday when still snowing but almost at its end. That's my car in the street. Still no plow, here, will take a front end loader to do this cul-de-sac.

Fortunately, I have power and lots of food in the house so we are hunkered down waiting to get dug out.

Hey Bill, I'm right near Dulles (32.4") and have a little pond in my yard. A little bell fountain runs all winter and keeps the ice open for the Koi. The pond is now a pit about 30 inches deep. The fountain sure looks lost down there.

Well my friend, we got the brunt of this one but as of now they are predicting the brunt of the next one to be right on top of you. I hope you laid in a good supply of toilet paper. Make a run to that bakery too. Good luck.

Took 2 days with a front end loader to dig out the 1/4 mile long driveway. Our driveway is right next to an intersection, the road our driveway connects to wasn't plowed. The other road at the intersection had one lane plowed thru it. I cleared out enough to make it to the one lane path in the middle of the road. Guess who came by in the middle of the night... yup, snow plows. At 5:30am I found a pile of snow across our driveway that was 4ft high and 10ft wide across the entire end of our driveway. Since the driveway is on a downhill slope, I couldn't back up to the house. Got to take a 1/4 mile walk this mornin on snow/ice... what fun. We're gettin 6-10 more inches tue/wed and every freakin flake of it is going to be piled up on the road.

George, your timing is impeccable.
As I was reading this I was thinking about what I need to do tonight and tomorrow.
Your two choices are good ones.:D

I got at least 26". Latest forecast I saw today said another 18-24" possible from tuesday into wednesday. I went to the grocery store today to beat the crowds tomorrow, but some shelves were empty. Blockbusters were packed too. Good luck to everyone with the next one.
