Where did you get your male? I would recommend starting with a group of 8 to 10 juvies and growing them out.

I picked him up from a guy in my area. My male is about 4-5" already. So I was hoping to find 1-2 decent sized females if possible.

You are probably looking for labeotropheus. Does the fish have a pronounced overbite?

The thing with Malawi cichlids is that many species have multiple collection points(from the Wild) and they should be kept separately for breeders.

Yes he does. He is a labeotropheus trewavasae red top Maleri. I must have copied the name wrong.
