MAKE A LITTLE FISH MONEY!!!

My company has a few ongoing research projects where they're looking for volunteers. As usual, I don't know anything about them beyond what I'm posting here, but it's a good opportunity to make a little extra money to spend on fish, fish tanks, fish food, fish supplies... you get the idea :p

Drivers Ages 25-55 Needed for Card Sorting Study — Receive $75

The Westat Transportation Group is conducting a card sorting study to understand how drivers perceive and organize different driving situations. Participants will be given a stack of cards with different driving situations and asked to sort them. To be eligible, participants must be between the ages of 25 and 55, have at least 2 years of driving experience, and must drive a vehicle 3 or more days per week. The study will take 1.5 hours and participants will receive $75. Westat employees are not eligible; however, family members and friends are. Please call 1-888-747-9523 for information or to register.

Homes with Child Aged 2-3 Needed for Pilot Test of Physical Activity Monitoring — Receive $75

Westat seeks children aged 2 to 3 to help pilot test physical activity monitoring (PAM) for a National Institutes of Health (NIH) study. Westat employees, family members, and friends are welcome to participate.
The pilot testing involves measuring the indoor and outdoor physical activity of the participants. Participating children will be instrumented with a wrist monitor that captures physical activity levels. A Westat staff member will meet with the parent/guardian in person to discuss the study and to fit the child with the activity monitor. It is to be worn for 7 consecutive days. The parent/guardian will be asked to fill out a daily participation log, which indicates whether or not the child wore the monitor and if there were any issues with the monitor that day. At the end of the 7-day study period, the parent or guardian will use a prepaid FedEx envelope to send the monitor back to Westat. Eligible participants who complete the testing and the daily log and return the equipment will receive $75 for their participation in the pilot study.

Interested participants should:

Have a child aged 2-3 years in the home; and
Live within a 1-hour drive of Rockville, in the metropolitan Washington, DC, area.
If interested, please contact Marguerite Campbell(email link) (301-610-8716).

Computer Users Aged 16-34 or 65-74 Urgently Needed for Friday, Aug 23, Interviewer Training — Receive $50

The International Survey of Adult Skills (ISAS) seeks volunteers for an interviewer training on Friday, August 23, at 1:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda. While Westat employees are not eligible, friends and relatives of employees may participate. The session will last 2½ to 3 hours, and volunteers will be asked questions about their education, work experiences, use of computers, and other information. They will then be asked to complete a series of computer-based tasks that represent everyday activities, such as figuring out the expiration date on a food product or using a map to give directions.

Participants must have experience using a computer and must be 16-34 or 65-74. Compensation for participation is $50. A voucher will be provided for free parking at the hotel; those who prefer to travel by Metro will receive $5. To be considered, please call (240) 314-5810 and leave your name, telephone number, and age; indicate that you are calling about ISAS training; and identify the best time for study staff to reach you.

Voice Control and Driving Study — Participants Needed

The Transportation and Safety Research Group is seeking participants for a federally funded research study on drivers' experiences using voice control systems. To be eligible for the study, you must have a voice control system in the car you drive most often. The study involves talking to a researcher about your experiences with your voice control system and driving on local roads and I-270 in your own car. The session will take about 1.5 hours. If you are interested in this study, please visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/voicecontrolstudy(external site) or call at 1-888-747-9523 for more details. Participants will receive $100 as a thank you for their time.

What is a voice control system?
By 'voice control' we mean that as a driver, you can perform certain tasks — like reading a text message and placing a phone call — using the sound of your voice. For example, you can make a call to your friend Meghan by saying, 'call Meghan.' You may also be able to hear your favorite phone apps through your car's sound system and control them with your voice (e.g., Pandora, Bing, MLB.com, or USA TODAY). Your voice control system may also allow you to turn on the air conditioning or tune the radio to your favorite radio station.

Participants Can Now Volunteer for Pretesting Through Westat.com

Westat’s IDEA Services provides questionnaire and instrument design, review, and testing for both internal Westat groups and external clients. One service the group provides to internal clients is access to the IDEA Services database, which contains the names of about 3,500 people who have volunteered to participate in survey testing efforts.

Westat.com now includes a research participant page that directs potential respondents to join the database of volunteers by completing an online screener. Projects can use the page to post descriptions of their survey testing eligibility requirements for limited periods. Projects can also now take advantage of a wider variety of recruiting resources by placing links to this new page on Facebook, blogs, craigslist, YouTube, and other social media outlets.

If you are interested in using this resource to recruit volunteers for survey testing, please contact Martha Stapleton at 301-251-4382 or send a message to IDEAServices@westat.com(email link).[Back to Top]
