Topic: Cyprinids

Bob Bock operates the YouTube channel “Sonny’s Fish Room,” which focuses on tips for hobbyists informed by experience and scientific literature searches. He has been collecting and keeping fish since he was 7 years old, when he brought home two mummichog from the Hackensack River Meadowlands of Northern New Jersey. Bob likes writing and speaking about aquarium fish and belongs to all the Washington, D.C. area's freshwater aquarium clubs. He is past president of the North American Native Fishes Association and wrote the "Meet the Hobbyist" column of Tropical Fish Hobbyist. He has also contributed articles to Freshwater and Marine Aquarium Magazine and Aquarium Fish Magazine. He is most interested in the fishes formerly classified as cyprinids, but he has also bred sunfish, cichlids, Corydoras and Brochis, livebearers, loaches, killifish, and rice fish. He led all the U.S. native fish collecting trips for the Potomac Valley Aquarium Society's All Aquarium Catfish Convention during its 20-year history. When he isn’t busy making videos for Sonny’s Fish Room, Bob likes angling, collecting fish, watching birds, and visiting U.S. Civil War battlefields and museums.

In person CCA- AUCTION - April 14, 2024 @ JOHN F KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL: 1901 Randolph Rd, Wheaton-Glenmont, MD 20902

We have created an auction for the April 14, 2024 in-person CCA meeting. Users of the website must register on the CCA MyGroupAuction website: mygroupauctions.com. Sellers are encouraged to upload a photo of the fish/item to be auctioned. These items can be viewed by all registered users before the auction.

CCA's board of directors has voted to allow the use of the minimum bid space on the MY GROUP AUCTIONS (MGA) website. Specifically the BOD approved the use of the minimum bid in the following manner: Bidding for any item with a minimum bid on its label will start at that amount and proceed as normal for any auction. If the minimum bid is not met, the owner of the item will take the item back into his possession. If the owner is not present to take back his item that did not sell, the minimum bid indicated on the label will not be in effect and so there will be minimum bid on the item.
If you have any questions, please ask.

As always, donations are welcomed.

Please review the auction rules.

Free fish and very large Amazon Sword

Hi all,

I'm moving on from the aquarium hobby right now and I'm looking to empty my tanks of fish prior to tearing them down. To that end, I have the following list of fish to give away. Pictures are at the end of the post.

10-12 (breeding group) of Keyhole cichlids (Cleithracara maronii). These are great fish, but pretty shy. I'd prefer to give these away to a CCA member who is prepared to take good care of them given their shyness. I picked up the original 5 fish about 4 years ago and there have been numerous spawns. Some of the fry had been given away over the years and some remained to grow the original group. Comes with 2 or 3 5-gallon buckets.

1 juvenile Ram (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi) born and bred in Rockville, MD. I gave away the rest of the group of fry, but this one somehow escaped and is living by him/her-self in a 10g at 85F and happily eating flake food.

About 15 Buenos Aires tetra (Psalidodon anisitsi). This great group of fish were in my 135G with the Keyholes. I've read that they can nip at plants, but haven't observed that personally. They absolutely eat duckweed, though. I'll send these along with a 5-gallon bucket.

1 large Amazon Sword from my 135G. Picked this up about 5 years ago and it's gotten to a pretty good size.
