I'm planning on bringing the following:

About a half dozen adult yellow labs (males and females) - these things are like the guppies of the cichlid world, aren't they? We only have the one Malawi tank, and it's going to be seriously overstocked because of all the fry, so we're getting rid of as many adults as I can catch.

Two kribs (pelvicachromis pulcher) - unknown sex (or at least, I don't know enough about them to sex them - I got these at Aquafest and what can I say, they just haven't struck my fancy)

One adult orange blushing angel

One adult "rainbow shark" (Epalzeorhynchos frenatum) (Assuming I can catch him - he's in a heavily planted tank with lots of hiding places)

A bunch of albino cories (probably at least 6, maybe as many as 12)

A big bag of guppy grass (najas guadalupensis) - great for breeder tanks, takes almost any water conditions, doesn't need CO2 or high light, and doesn't even need to be planted (works great as a floating plant)

I'm forgetting something...

Oh, yeah - danger_chicken, do you still need snails for your puffer? If so, I could probably bag up a bunch.

I am hoping to make it. I have an Open House to go to for High School next year (my son, not me:lol:).

I may bring a few HOB's (Emperor 400's)
I might also bring some of my Yellow Lab fry/juvies. I have been breeding a very nice line for many years and I would like to expand the line down to fellow CCA members.
Here is a pic of one of the females...yes, this is a female!
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y216/Fischfan13/100_0204-1.jpg

Also, I have started to breed a very nice line of Rusty's.
These Rusty's came from DavesRareFish, and I will possibly be bringing down a bag of juvies from my adult pair.

I'd bid on some crypt/ large java fern/ large anubias plants if any showed up at the auction

Well, in addition to the guppy grass I was already planning to bring, I could certainly bring a couple bags of crypt wendtii, and maybe also some crypt balansae (gets very tall, does well in harder water), and possibly some crypt moehlmanii (bright green leaves, instead of the usually darker green of most crypts - makes for a nice contrast).

I'll look around for any java ferns or anubias I could part with; those grow pretty slowly for me, so I'm not sure I have any available.

I could either bring these for the auction, or if you would prefer to buy them outright, PM me.

Chris, are those plants cichlid safe?

Well, to my knowledge none of them will poison your fish. :) Whether they'll survive your fish, I can't be sure. But you won't know until you try!

I suppose it would depend on what kind of substrate you're using, whether you keep cichlids that dig (and would uproot them), or keep plant-eaters. In general, the crypts will need to get their roots established in the substrate (gravel or sand ought to work, though flourite or ecocomplete are better). Anubias or java fern would be better if you have diggers.

Chris, are those plants cichlid safe?

Depends on which ones :)

They do well with most tangs... except for Tropheus/gobies/Petrochromis.

Mbuna... anubias and java fern. Peacocks do well with all three I mentioned as well.

I have played around with a lot of types of plants.... one of the reasons years ago that I got into Tangs was the fact that you can keep a lot of different kinds of plants with them as long as they can tolerate the hard water. I have a very heavily planted tank with sand sifters :) Makes for a very nice tank. With most rock dwelling tangs you can have plants as well. Leleupi/Julidochromis/nigriventris/chalinochromis... etc. It's not very natural at all.... but plants keep my water quality up :)

Okay, besides the wife I will be bringing the speaker.

Just got off the phone with him and he got his flight set.
Its amazing that you can get to California for less than 1/2 of what it costs to get here from Toronto.
California is 3 times as far. That little line makes a difference I guess.

Anyway he is set and coming in late Friday.

Mike, I've been interested in those for a while, so I'll definitely be happy to look at anything you are willing to bring. Amy and I are considering setting up a malaysian biotope-themed paludarium in something like a 110xh, so one of your pieces might be perfect. Got any pics?

I've tried pics of these, but have never been happy with how they come out. You just can't get the 3D look you need to visualize just how they will fit in the tanks. That is why I have always asked folks to come by and check them out in person (especially the monster pieces I have in the shed). I need to remember to throw these in the truck Friday night, lot going on Saturday morning before the meeting.

I want to thank everyone for the turn out yesterday. I think the official count at the peak was 84 adults and 17 children. Man we continue to grow.

I also want to thank the food committee for taking the load the last few months.

I want to thank our VP for running the bulk of the meeting.
I really could get used to that. HMMMMMM.......

I want to thank the guys that were the auctioneers also.(Kurt, Lonnie, and Andrew?) That too takes a load off of me and it allowed me to attend a post action meeting on Aquafest.

I do have a couple of complaints too.

Please, if you get there late, find a seat and wait till the speaker is done. It is very distracting having people come in late, talk, try to register fish, get food etc. One person recently wanted to buy tickets and ask about a shirt during the presentation. Please just think about it and wait till the speaker is done. We bring most of them in from a long distance just to talk to us for an hour or so. 1 or 2 people getting food or a drink is one thing but having 20 people in 5 minutes is getting bad. And noisy!
The exception to this should be all the people that are working behind the tables. Most of the time that is the only chance they get to grab a drink or something.
And yes you will see me up and around at times. Thats the best time for me to get a good head count. lol

The second item has come up 4 meetings in a row.
The mini auction. 1st off, if you are selling something, it should be labeled as to exactly what it is. I have had 2 complaints recently on the fish. 1 complaint was that the fish that a person bought was not a pure bred and was obviously a hybrid or of mixed heritage. If you are selling your fish, please mark it if you know its not true. But on the other hand we give the buyers time to look at the fish. Don't bid on a fish that you have not looked at.... The other fish complaint was an obvious mislabled fish. Not even close...
The other 2 were on dry goods. Both were filters. Remember an auction is buyer beware. The club does not stand behind any item sold and will not refund or go to bat for you. Again there is another hand.... If you are selling something please label the condition if it is not obvious. We are there to exchange items, help each other and have fun. This is not a place to try to rip people off or make a living (and I am not saying anyone is doing this intentionally so don't get in an uproar. lol)
If someone is constantly a problem with the items they bring then they we will not except any more items or the person will be banned from the club.
Like I said, 4 meetings and 4 complaints. Lets (as Barney Fife would say) Nip it.

Sorry for the neg comments.
Lets have fun.
And the meetings are becoming fun for me again. :jumpy:

I was the person with the two Emperor 400's. Didn't realize that I should have labeled the filters in their condition, but I will say this:

And the one this month was not a "does not work" type of complaint but more of a "this is not as clean as I thought" complaint.
The one last time worked but had a crack in the box and the seller did say he "did not know. Got it at a yard sale" so there is no intent there.
Just trying to remind everyone and cover the clubs butt, if you know what I mean. lol

I love the pictures.

Having those gives potential members an idea of what happens at a meeting.

Wow Pat - Great Turnout. I just wanted to add a few things about the auction. There were many bags that it was difficult to read what was written on the bag. Some had several numbers, abbreviations, no designation on sexes or number of fish in the bag. It is difficult as an auctioneer to ID the fish when they are juvenile and/or streesed and you are looking at them through 2 bags thick and trying to move the auction along. When possible use a mailing label and try to have all the identification in one place. There were a few bags that were re-used bags and had several numbers and ID's on them. All dry goods should be labeled as to whether they are new/used, working/not, or condition unknown. And....the speaker was great and the food was good. OK - now back to prepping for ACLC tomorrow and OCA this weekend!

:jumpy:
