View Full Version : Fish From The April Meeting
Here's a couple of shots of the Apistogramma baenschi(Inca 50) I got at the April CCA meeting. I know they are horrid and blurry but that the best I can do for now. I'm waiting for my check from George W, then I can get a speed flash (these little @!%*!<# don't stay still). I took these pictures a day after they had settled in the tank. I haven't been able to get more because their spawning. The female has been in a cave for a couple of days now, hopefully I see some fry free swimming soon.

That male is awesome Kevin.
You won't believe the difference you'll get when you start using the speedflash from over the top of the tank. Literally...night and day. The bottom two are pretty good...for a beginner. :winking0011:

Thanks Bobby,
I'm slowly trying to climb up to your level. Right now I just try and get things framed right and in focus with the equipment that I have.
When I get a Macro lens and speed flash things should accelerate.

Hey man, just joking with ya. The composition and exposure on these are good. When you get the flash, you'll ask yourself, "why didn't I buy that in the beginning". :D

I'll have a flash soon enough...can't wait to start posting more pics.

I do not care what any of the "Photography Heads" say :FIREdevil: :

If they had lived in the era of REAL photography they might not be so bold :D

Paul,
They still sell film and they have scanners that digitize them so you can post them on the web. I have a scanner and will scan them for you if you want.
We have heard a lot about the 'Real' era of photography, lets see what you got! :fighting0097: :angel2:
I just bought some film for one of the old cameras I bought off eBay, I am going to experiment with it a bit. Might be able to see a fish, might not!

Hark!!! - A CHALLENGE !!!
dude, with all due respect - and you are due much - I am now forced to purchase a roll of film, hunt down batteries for the camera, drag 20+ lenses and at least three bodies from storage, and teach y'all a thing or two.
P.S. Thanks for the scanner offer but I have a great one myself - perhaps I'll post a pic (negative) I scanned from the 'old days'.
Paul.

Your camera uses batteries? I thought it was the type where you just pulled the lens cap off for the exposure..........

Yes it is a friendly challenge! Who knows, maybe we can get some of the others to participate as well.
You should have the advantage on me in the film department. I didn't even know what kind of film to get so I got 7 different types and 3 different speeds. Now all I have to do is figure out where the film goes!
No use in having all that equipment of yours in storage, its good to take it out and get some air.

Man, I gotta be careful what I say around here. I'm not sure if I was insulted or challenged. Is a "photography head' a good thing or bad thing to be. :confused0083:
I'll be the first to admit that I know little about 35mm or 110mm film photography. Even though I have a Nikon N6006 SLR and a few lenses, filters, teleconverters, etc., etc., for when I started photographing my fish about fifteen years ago. I have never scanned any of my old fish photos...except for one. I used this old film shot of my first wc aulonocara baenschi in a thread about how the species has been identified and the color changes over the years. I think this shot may be at least thirteen years old. As you can tell, no special flash setup and no post processing. Just developed at Ritz (I added the sig to the image a couple years ago when I first posted it on the web).

Kevin, sorry for hijacking your thread. However, it seems we always have a few that stray, I'm guilty this time.
Paul, can't wait to see you kick our *** with your vintage work. Perhaps you should share some of it over at Aquatic Photography Forum. Mike is a mod there and we have several guys sharing their film work with us currently. That would probably fulfill your competitive needs better than the dig wiz's here. :sign0201:

You must have been friends of that guy Brady from back during the Cival War times.

Lol,
It's nice to see everyone is enjoying the photography section. I'm going to post a picture of my tank as Dee Cee requested.
I think it would be fun doing Photo's like back in the day, lighting gunpowder for a flash and stuff like that sounds like a lot of fun. I wish gunpowder would work on my D-80. it's a lot cheaper than a speedflash.

Okay people, just to let you know, I just tried the powder flash.
You only have one shot. After the first shot, there is so much smoke in the room that you can not find the fish for the next shot.
Had to turn on my exhaust fan and pull the batteries on the smoke detectors.
Just did not seem like it was worth the hassle.
Course the loud bang did not do much for the fish's nerves either. Should not have used the black powder from my little cannon I guess. Little noisey.

There is NO WAY that any kind of smoke got released in the house after all the drywall and painting that just got done!
Pat is smarter than that - it is still to cold to sleep outside in the back of the truck!

Y'all make as much fun as you wish - and yes, my camera bodies take batteries just like your vibrators do !!!
BUT you, as in the 'collective "you" ', are quite right: dust gathering equipment is of no value if it is not used.
Hence: IT IS ALL COMING OUT OF HIDING : you may consider yourselves duly warned: I might just kick some serious photographic ***!!!!!
Paul.
