Hello Cichlid Fans!

For the third year in a row, the Potomac Valley Aquarium Society is collecting funds for the "Give a Kid a Tank" fund. This fund purchases tank set-ups and gives them to needy kids during the holiday season through Our Neighbor's Child, a local non-profit organization. (http://www.ourneighborschild.org/)

Last year ONC gave presents to over 2300 children in the area. Our "Give a Kid a Tank" program is considered a very important part of their efforts.

In 2009 PVAS donated 18 brand new Marineland three gallon tanks. In 2010 we donated 15 new Hagen 5.5 gallon tanks, and this year we will give as many tanks as we can. PVAS members are dedicated to getting the fish-keeping hobby out there in front of youngsters so that the hobby can survive. The tanks are given to older kids and teens, who are often overlooked in the toy drives during the holiday season.

If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, please visit our donations page at: http://www.pvas.com/donations.php where you can donate via Paypal.

We appreciate all monetary donations, large and small! If you have any questions about the program, please email PVAS president, Sherry Mitchell at gardengirl7 at aol.com

I hope this finds you well, and enjoying the holiday season. As always, thank you for your support!

How many tanks will be in the picture this year?

Okay, So we collected $980 in total, which bought us 20 Tetra 5 gallon Crescent shaped tanks with LED light, AND 18 smaller Hagen Marina Betta Cubes! A total of 38 tanks!

I was just amazed at how much we collected this year. Many last minute donations came in and several of them were LARGE, which put us well over our goal for the year. Thanks so much!

In case anyone is wondering about the purchase of the smaller betta cubes. We bought those for donation to kids who are living in shelters and in hotels. Some of the kids who are given presents from "Our Neighbor's Child" do not have stable housing situations and can't haul around larger tanks. I felt the smaller betta cubes would be ideal for them. :-)
